Tutors

The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) hires students who have demonstrated academic excellence, a desire for helping their peers, and who have great interpersonal skills.

We are currently accepting applications for the following tutoring positions:

FALL: AST/235; BIO (105, 277, 280); CHE/111, 114; GRK (201, 202); ITA (100-200), LAT (100-200), PHY (205, 211, 212), SOC (202)

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum grade of "B+" in the course(s) for consideration
  • Faculty recommendation per discipline
  • Available for a minimum of 5 hours per week
  • Available for paid training

Salary:

Undergraduate students $8.00/hr
Graduate students $9.50/hr
Professional tutors (post-baccalaureate) $10.60/hr
Professional nursing tutors (B.S.) $25.00/hr
Graduate students in MSN, Nurse Education, Nurse Anesthesia $35.00/hr
Professional Nurse Anesthetist Tutors (CRNA) $100.00/hr


Training:
All SSC tutors are required to attend ten (10) training sessions per academic semester to maintain good standing. The SSC's tutor training is nationally certified at levels I, II, and III by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Our tutors earn a national certification at each level when they complete 10 hours of training and 25 hours of direct tutoring experience!

Training sessions for the Fall 2007 semester are scheduled on Mondays from 4:00-5:00pm and Tuesdays from 5:00-6:00pm. Tutors must be available for one of these days/times. Employment is contingent upon attendance. Tutors who fail to meet the minimum training requirements will face probation or termination.
