Academic Skills

The Tutoring and Academic Skills Programs offers FREE academic skills assistance to students at UNCG.

Let us help you identify your academic goals and to develop the skills and strategies required to reach those goals. Unlike the TASP’s Tutoring Services, you don’t have to be enrolled in a particular course to take advantage of this service. Academic Skills can apply to any class.

What can Academic Skills services help me with?

Some of the skills and strategies we can help with include:

  • Managing your time
  • Listening and note-taking
  • Preparing for a test
  • Dealing with test anxiety or procrastination
  • Being a more efficient and effective learner

Request Assistance

If you’re interested in Academic Skills services, please request assistance by clicking here.

Once your request is received, you will be sent an email asking you to confirm your request—please respond to this email promptly! You must request assistance and respond to our confirmation email in order to be assigned a skills specialist.

Assessing Your Skills

Each student develops a unique plan with the help of their academic skills specialist. To help us develop that plan, we have a variety of assessments, surveys, and diagnostic tools we can use to help you identify your academic strengths and weaknesses and to identify areas where we can be of the most help.

Developing your Skills

Once you have done your assessment and developed your action plan, you will meet weekly with an academic skills specialist for instruction and collaboration on the skills and strategies that will improve your academic performance.
