How to Apply for a Tutor - Read First!

1) Read through the list subjects we tutor (contingent upon finding qualified candidates).
2) Read through the course limitations (SIP-exclusive course sections and options for general disciplines we are unable to serve).
3) If the course(s) you want tutoring in are not excluded, click on the application link at the bottom of the page. If we do not serve a subject area, we encourage you to apply for academic skills assistance and/or follow the suggested options listed under Course Limitations below.
3) Students may request tutoring in up to 2 courses per semester.
4) Once the semester begins, you will receive an email with your tutor assignment(s), including the name and contact information of your tutor. The tutor will then contact you within 24 hours to introduce her/himself and schedule your weekly tutoring session.
5) Tutoring assignments are made daily and communicated within 48 business hours, provided we have an available tutor. If we do not have an available tutor, you will receive an email informing you that you have been placed on a waiting list.

Course Limitations

While we strive to provide tutoring in as many disciplines as possible, there are some that are not feasible for us. Before proceeding to our tutoring request form at the bottom of the page, please learn about the options available to you in the subjects / courses we do not serve.

1) Courses Served Exclusively by Supplmental Instruction (SIP)
2) Options for Subjects Not Served by Tutoring

Additionally, our Academic Skills staff can help you with enhancing your study skills, note taking approaches, test taking strategies, reading methods, or other areas that impact your coursework. If this is the case, please complete our online Academic Skills request form using the link below.

Courses Served Exclusively by Supplemental Instruction (SIP)

In response to the challenge of effectively serving as many tutoring requests as possible while maintaining high quality service, we have determined that there are several SIP-related courses which will receive exclusive content support for the students enrolled. This enables the LAC to effectively meet the high demand for tutoring, while allowing students multiple review opportunities each week for their SIP-related course. If you do not see your SIP-related course listed below, you are welcome to submit an application for tutoring.

FALL 2009 SIP-Related Courses Not Served
BIO/111-01, BIO/111-03
CHE/103-01, CHE/103-03, CHE/111-03, CHE/114-01

Appeal Process
An appeal for tutoring may be made if you are enrolled in an SIP-related course section that is not currently supported, provided that you are unable to attend ALL review sessions for your specific course and section number due to:

1) course / lab conflicts
2) employment conflicts
3) student-athlete conflicts

Successful appeals will be granted based on a completed appeal form and one of the following:

1) a copy of your UNCGenie schedule showing academic conflicts with all review sessions;
2) a letter from your employer documenting work schedule conflicts (on company letterhead, with your supervisor's contact information); or
3) a letter from Athletics - Academic Enhancement verifying the conflict.

Appeal Form (* PDF - please print this form)

Please remember! We only provide tutoring in 100-200 level courses. The only exception to this is for the School of Nursing.

Request Forms

Tutoring Request
