Who are the Student Success Assistants?
The Student Success Assistants (SSAs) are bright, upper-class students who have had considerable success at the University (in their course work as well as in extracurricular activities) and who are eager to assist SSS freshmen in getting off to the best possible start. Some SSAs were Special Support Services participants during their freshman year. In addition, they receive training in the art of helping.
What is their purpose?
The purpose of the Student Success Assistants is to complement the efforts
of the Special Support Services (SSS)
professional staff, in particular the Assistant Director for Counseling
Services. They provide help to many freshmen that will substantially assist
them in making a successful adjustment to the University by capitalizing
on the value of peer mentoring as a positive influence.
What is the goal of the Student Success Assistant Program?
The goal of the Student Success Assistant Program is to enhance the retention rate of SSS freshmen by providing regular contacts with them to ascertain progress and to respond by providing information, support, and referral services.
