SSS Employment Opportunities

Lab Monitor

The Lab Monitors provide assistance to SSS program participants in basic computing and software use, providing instruction as necessary, and provide a staff presence in the Learning Lab during peak hours and staff lunches and meeting times. This position may occasionally handout surveys or evaluations to students, and maintains sufficient stock of handouts and literature available to students. As the Learning Lab is used for tutoring and studying, it is important that the Lab Monitors help to maintain an environment conducive to learning by making sure that cell phones are used outside the office and that conversations are held at a reasonable volume. All this should be done with tact, diplomacy, and concern for our students.

Students must:

  • Be enrolled as a student at UNCG
  • Have a Federal Work-Study Award for 2008-2009
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience with all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Have strong computer troubleshooting skills
  • Be well-organized and pay close attention to details
  • Be able to work with a diverse student population, and
  • Be a responsible and reliable worker

This is a part time academic year position, beginning in Fall 2006. The starting salary for this position is $7.25/hr.
