SSS Employment Opportunities

Student Success Assistants

Student Success Assistants (SSAs) are upper-class undergraduate students who have had considerable success at the University (in their course work as well as in extracurricular activities) and who are eager to assist SSS freshmen by providing information, support, and referral services. Interested students should apply during March or April.

Students must:

  • be sophomores, juniors, or seniors, with a GPA of 2.50 or better, and
  • have strong verbal and written communication skills.

The Student Success Assistant:

  • Serves as a liaison between Program students and the Assistant Director for Counseling Services
  • Serves as a role model for SSS students
  • Conducts personal college adjustment sessions with freshmen students individually and in groups
  • Keeps the Assistant Director for Counseling Services informed as to the needs of the students assigned
  • Submits reports and timesheets on student contacts on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
  • Promotes Student Support Services' social/cultural activities and monitors students' involvement
  • Participates in weekly in-service training sessions
  • Assists in student orientation and recruitment activities

Two references from University faculty/staff are required. Students hired as SSAs will be required to attend training sessions held at various points throughout the semester. Training sessions are paid. The Starting salary for undergraduate students is $7.25/hr.
