Dear Prospective Tutor
Thank you for your interest in working with the UNCG Special Support Services Program. Special Support Services (SSS) hires students who have demonstrated academic excellence, a desire for helping their peers, and who have great interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Before completing an application, please read the following page thoroughly, and be sure to check out the disciplines we provide tutoring for, by clicking here.
While we are accepting applications for all subject areas, we are paying particular attention to the following:
ACC 201, 202, 218
ATY 100, 212, 213
ECO 201, 202, 250
GEO 103, 106
KIN 250, 375, 376
PSC 100, 105
All applications are screened for eligibility. Students who do not meet the current employment requirements will be notified via e-mail. Students who pass the initial screening process will be placed in our applicant pool for two academic semesters. Because hiring takes place based on need, there may not be an opening at the time of your application. Should a need arise in the field that you have applied for, you may be contacted for an interview.
Requirements for consideration include:
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
- Minimum grade of "B+" in the course(s) tutoring will occur in
- One Faculty recommendation per discipline. Applicants will NOT be contacted for interviews until at least one recommendation is received.
- Minimum availability of 5 hours per week
- Attendance at paid training
Students hired as tutors with the SSS are required to attend a minimum of 10 paid training sessions sponsored by the Student Success Center (SSC). Training sessions are offered on either Mondays from 4-5pm or Tuesdays from 5-6pm. Should you accept a position with our program, more information about these sessions will be provided to you. Training requirements are subject to change.
Starting Salaries for Tutors
Tutoring hours are flexible and are arranged by the tutor and the student. Tutors are not guaranteed a certain number of hours.
