Special Support Services takes pride in offering individualized tutoring for our students in most courses from levels 100 to 400.

Philosophy

The tutoring component exists to develop independent learners and improve student academic performance. Our peer and professional tutors strive to help students excel in difficult courses through the application of academic skills and concepts blended with knowledge of the subject. In keeping with our mission of providing holistic, quality service, tutoring is available for most courses, and is conducted on a one-to-one basis. For the benefit of all SSS students, walk-in tutoring is offered each semester during the final exam period. Services are FREE for all students who qualify for the Special Support Services program.

Training

The Student Success Center's tutoring program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) at Levels I, II, and III. CRLA is a group of student-oriented professionals active in the fields of learning assistance, developmental education, and tutorial services at the college level. Its most vital function and overall purpose is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, methods, and information to improve student learning and to facilitate the professional growth of its methods.

For more specific information on training, please access information under your Blackboard account.
