OWLS Workshops

The Student Success Center offers workshops through OWLS (Outreach Workshops on Learning Skills) where we come to you! There are 11 standardized topics in our OWLS workshops that may be requested. Faculty, staff, and student leaders may request workshops during both the fall and spring semesters (see below for more details).

General Study Skills I Organizational Skills
General Study Skills II Taming Test Anxiety
Learning Styles Test Preparation
Listening Skills Test Taking Strategies
Memory and Concentration Textbook Reading
Note Taking Time Management

Please read the following carefully BEFORE requesting a workshop:
OWLS are conducted for 100-400 level courses only. A two-week notice will be required for all standardized workshop requests. The workshops will only be conducted between the hours of 8:00 am and 7:00 pm (ending at 8:00 pm) Monday - Thursday, and 8:00 am and 4:00 pm (ending at 5:00 pm) on Fridays. At least 10 students must be present for a workshop presentation.

Special request workshops are honored on a case-by-case basis and with a three-week notice. Special Request workshops will only be honored if they do not contain information presented in the 11 standardized workshops. Special Request workshops are limited to information not presented in one of our 11 standardized workshops due to limited resourses of our staff services. If one of our standard workshops covers information you would like presented, please default to one of those workshops. Special request workshops do not include topics outside of study-skills related themes. One example of a special request workshop is "Goal Setting."

Our OWLS are presented using PowerPoint. Please use a classroom with a teaching station and/or reserve a room in the EUC with a ceiling projector. The requestor must secure the key for the teaching station and provide all photocopies for your class/group (overhead projectors and teaching station keys are available through the Teaching and Learning Center). If funds are an issue, we will do our best to work with you.

If you would like to request an OWLS, please complete the OWLS Request form located at http://success.uncg.edu/owls/. If you have any questions about the OWLS, please contact Erin Farrior at eefarrio@uncg.edu or by calling 334-3538.

Please note: some links require the Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe web site.

To read more information on our OWLS, please review our OWLS menu.
