OWLS Workshops

The Student Success Center offers OWLS (Outreach Workshops on Learning Skills) where we come to you! Faculty, staff, and student leaders may request workshops during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. There are 11 standardized workshops that may be requested:

General Study Skills I Organizational Skills
General Study Skills II Test Preparation
Learning Styles Test Taking Strategies
Active Listening Textbook Reading
Memory and Concentration Time Management
Note Taking

Please read the following carefully BEFORE requesting a workshop:

  • OWLS are conducted for 100-400 level courses only.
  • A two-week notice will be required for all standardized workshop requests.
  • Workshops will be conducted up until Reading Day each semester.
  • Workshops will only be conducted between the hours of 8:00am and 7:00pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00am to 5:00pm on Fridays.
  • At least 10 students must be present for a workshop presentation.
  • The instructor must be present during an OWLS presentation.

Special request workshops are honored on a case-by-case basis and with a three-week notice. Additionally, due to limited resources and staff, special request workshops are limited to information not presented in one of our 11 standard workshops. If one of our standard workshops covers information that you would like presented, please default to one of those workshops. Special request workshops do not include topics outside of study-skills related themes. One example of a special request workshop is "Goal Setting."

Requestors are asked to:

  1. Please use a classroom with a teaching station and/or reserve a room in the EUC with a ceiling projector since our OWLS are presented using PowerPoint.
  2. Secure the key for the teaching station.
  3. Print handouts prior to the OWLS presentation or forward the handouts to her/his students or group members and instruct them to print the handouts themselves (please instruct students or group members to bring all handouts to the OWLS presentation). A SSC staff member will forward the requestor all handouts needed for a workshop one week in advance.

If you would like to request an OWLS, please complete the OWLS request form located at http://success.uncg.edu/owls/. If you have any questions about the OWLS, please contact the Learning Assistance Center at lac@uncg.edu or by calling 334-4415 or 334-3878.

Please note: some links require the Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe web site.

To read more information on our OWLS, please review our OWLS menu.
