Supplemental Instruction (SI)

What is Supplemental Instruction?

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-facilitated review program that supports specific challenging undergraduate courses. Each supported section has its own SI Leader-- a peer who has taken the class before, and been successful in it.  Those SI Leaders attend class again with you, so they see what you see and hear what you hear in lecture, and then they prepare three weekly sessions, each lasting fifty minutes.  These sessions are engaging in additional learning opportunities around the most challenging elements of the course material.

SI attendance is voluntary: you can arrive late or leave early from any of your SI sessions, and you can bring snacks to eat during the session-- some sessions are even hosted online!

Think of it as an opportunity to study with your classmates, interact with the material in new ways, and review content with someone who has already done well in the class. A lot of students find value in picking up study tips from their classmates and SI leader, too.  Since instructors who teach the courses supported by SI don't attend the SI sessions, and never receive session attendance lists, choosing to go to SI is all about your own learning!

Sessions are free and open to any UNCG student in the supported course section.
