STEM Learning FAQ

For drop-in tutoring, your tutor will ask what you want to work on and explain how they can help. Then you’ll get to work. Be ready to participate! As peers, tutors aren’t here to lecture or judge. They offer fresh perspectives and activities to help you learn course concepts and strategies. 

As many times as they want, given there is space.  Each drop-in tutor can assist three students at a time.  The space in the STEM Learning Center is limited. 

You are more than welcome to wait for a tutor to have a spot to open up.  Use the kiosk to sign in to the STEM Learning Center, then sit in our waiting area.  As soon as a seat opens, the tutor or desk assistant will call your name and get you set up.  While you wait you can prepare questions and concepts that you need assistance with. 

Every student has different situations and goals, which means there is no guaranteed outcome for tutoring. Although, if you are 100% committed to developing your academic skills in a course, you will: 

• Think about your current learning strategies and habits 
• Understand what changes you can make to improve your grades 
• Have specific strategies to use now and in your future classes 
• Become a more efficient learner by studying smarter, not just harder
