About TrACE

UNCG TrACE (Transfer, Accelerate, Complete, and Engage) is part of a UNC System initiative. It is designed to help North Carolina Community College transfer students, who've earned an associate degree OR at least 60 transferable hours, complete their bachelor’s degree.

TrACE provides a range of financial, academic, and personal support.

Why You Should Join TrACE!

Degree completion is the goal and we are here to support you! How, you might ask? Great question. Benefits include:

  • Dedicated TrACE Academic Advisor - secondary to your departmental academic advisor, they support you in developing your academic plans, discussing your career goals, and exploring campus supports and resources
  • $100 monthly financial incentive for participation -- expect to commit no more than 3-4 hours per month (which includes meeting with your TrACE advisor in person twice per month)
  • $300 Textbook assistance for fall and spring semesters
  • Summer Tuition Support -- depending on other sources of aid, you could receive tuition support for up to 6 credit hours
  • Curated workshops on academic skills, career and professional development, and other relevant topics --we'll help you get connected to UNCG supports and resources
  • Community building with other TrACE students

Are You Eligible?

In order to qualify for the UNCG TrACE Program, you must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a North Carolina resident.
    • Be an admitted transfer student from a NC Community College with an associate degree or 60 transferable hours, pursuing a first bachelor’s degree.
    • Begin at UNCG in Summer or Fall 2023. Current UNCG transfer students are not eligible.
    • No more than 2 years between departure from a NC Community college and enrollment at UNCG.
    • Have completed an Associates degree or a have minimum of 60 transferable credits.
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); UNCG Federal School Code is 002976.

Graduates of Cooperative Innovative High Schools (e.g., early and middle colleges) and fully online students are not eligible for the TrACE program.

TrACE Program Requirements/Expectations

  • Maintain full-time status
  • Earn a minimum of 30 credits each academic year; enroll in summer or winter courses, if needed, to earn 30 credits
  • Meet regularly with your academic advisor
  • Participate in required activities/events
  • Respond promptly to all communications sent out by TrACE staff
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year

How to Apply

You may have already completed many of these steps!

  1. Apply for admission to UNCG
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov; if eligible, accept all federal and state grants
  3. Get accepted to UNCG — CONGRATULATIONS! —and accept your offer of admission as well as your intent to enroll.
  4. Complete all admissions requirements.
  5. Apply to the TrACE program by July 17th, 2023.   There are limited spaces available and admission to TrACE will be determined through a lottery process.  All students who meet TrACE eligibility requirements and submit their completed application before the July 17th deadline will be entered in the lottery; the final determination of who is selected will be determined randomly.
