To qualify for UNCG-McNair, you must:

• be a first-generation college student [parent(s)/guardian(s) do not have a 4-year college degree] AND come from a modest or low-income family (based on Dept. of Education’s Income Guidelines)

In addition, UNCG-McNair candidates must also:

• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Be enrolled as a full-time student at UNCG, have completed at least 30 credit hours (Sophomore Classification), and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2023 or later
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Completed application packets will include:

• Online application submission (due January 7th, 2023)
• Completed Personal Statement (email to mcnair.scholars@uncg.edu)
  • In essay form, Please describe why you believe you are a strong candidate for UNCG’s McNair Program and what are your academic and career goals. Please explain why you are interested in obtaining a doctorate/Ph.D., the area you are interested in studying, and why you think that participating in the McNair Program can help you reach those goals. Your response must be thoughtful, thorough, and honest. Your personal statement should be no more than two pages, typed (12 pt. font) and double-spaced. 
• Completed Statement of Research Interest (email to uncgrem@uncg.edu)
  • Your statement should explain in as much detail as possible the academic discipline and area of your research interests, possible research project(s), how this research can contribute to academia, and why this research appeals to you. Your statement of research interest should be no more than 250 words, typed (12 pt. font), and double-spaced.
• Your resume (email to mcnair.scholars@uncg.edu)
• Two (2) recommendations completed by Faculty or Educator: UNCG-McNair Faculty Recommendation Form
